Hippo with ballet dancer and ballerina and apple

Part of the Legion of the Lost and Found collection

14cm x 13cm x 20cm

Lulu felt cumbersome, inelegant and uneasy. She had a ball of anxiety in her tummy she couldn’t shift. She would hide in the shallows and started to avoid company. As the days passed her only entertainment was from dancing in the water. The more she moved the calmer she felt. Her moves developed and she transformed into an aquatic sensation. Even when the whole herd was watching she realised her anxiety had been replaced with happiness.

The hippo is a discarded toy, embellished with collected feathers, textiles, jewellery, dried flower components and beads. I have also dressed her with decoupage, paint and silver leaf. She has a fairy light headpiece and painted hooves.
